چکیده

The incorporation of [G -3H]-dihydrokaempferol into catechins of young tea shoots Camellia sinensis L.) was compared with that of l [ U 14C]-phenylalanine and [U -14C]-shikimic acid. The percent incorporation of all three precursors into (— )epicatechin was about equal, whereas the incorporation of shikimic acid into the galloylated catechins was somewhat higher than that of phenylalanine and dihydrokaempferol. From the results it can be concluded that dihydro kaempferol is a precursor for catechins in the tea plant.

Cloning and Characterization of a Flavonoid 3'-Hydroxylase Gene from Tea Plant (Camellia sinensis).

Tea leaves contain abundant flavan-3-ols, which include dihydroxylated and trihydroxylated catechins. Flavonoid 3'-hydroxylase (F3'H: EC 1.14.13.21) is one of the enzymes in the establishment of the hydroxylation pattern. A gene encoding F3'H, designated as CsF3'H, was isolated from Camellia sinensis with a homology-based cloning technique and deposited in the GenBank (GenBank ID: KT180309). Bi...

Subcellular Localization of Galloylated Catechins in Tea Plants [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] Assessed via Immunohistochemistry

Galloylated catechins, as the main secondary metabolites in the tea plant, including (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate and (-)-epicatechin-3-gallate, comprise approximately three-quarters of all the tea plant catechins and have stronger effects than non-galloylated catechins, both on the product quality in tea processing and the pharmacological efficacy to human beings. The subcellular localizatio...

Multifunctional effects of green tea catechins on prevention of the metabolic syndrome.

Tea catechins reduce serum cholesterol concentrations and suppress postprandial hypertriacylglycerolemia in experimental animals and humans. These effects are mainly ascribed to the gallate esters of catechins, (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). During pasteurization of tea drinks, tea catechins are epimerized to so-called heat-treated tea catechins such as (...

Construction of a SSR-Based Genetic Map and Identification of QTLs for Catechins Content in Tea Plant (Camellia sinensis)

Catechins are the most important bioactive compounds in tea, and have been demonstrated to possess a wide variety of pharmacological activities. To characterize quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for catechins content in the tender shoots of tea plant, we constructed a moderately saturated genetic map using 406 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, based on a pseudo-testcross population of 183 indi...

Effect of green tea catechins on plasma cholesterol level in cholesterol-fed rats.

Effects of tea catechins (tannins) on lipid metabolism were studied in male weanling rats fed a 25% casein diet containing 15% lard and 1% cholesterol for 28 days. Crude tea catechins prepared from green tea powder were supplemented at a 1% and 2% of the lard-cholesterol diet. The addition of 2% tea catechins slightly depressed growth but at the 1% level was without effect. Tea catechins decrea...
